Bilge paint

The constant exposure to harmful marine elements like heat, humidity, mildew, grease and grime requires a superior bilge barrier solution to resist moisture and repel most oils, acids, alkyds and solvents right on the spot. My concern is the epoxy is to hard and will crack with the movement of the fiberglass. I used this paint for the cockpit in my late 60s Oday Daysailer I. Since its an open cockpit single wall boat, the cockpit is also the bilge so I wanted a hard wearing paint that could take the water and the abuse. A protecting paint based on modified alkyd resin for use in bilge spaces, engine rooms, etc.

This hard wearing finish is resistant to antifreeze, grease, gasoline, diesel fluid and engine oil. Rustoleum with added enamel gardener catalyst works fantastic and wears awesome. Way cheaper than anything labeled bilge or marine paint.


The paint left a semi gloss finish and seems to be very durable. I did not have any problems with the paint adhering to the epoxy or any other areas. Personally I am very pleased and for $ 75.

Hi, I just got my first Roamer. First job will be to clean, scrape and paint the bilge. In the bilge , coat with CPES and a few coats of bilge paint. The use of bilge paint is recommended since it will allow moisture in the wood to evaporate out and prevent any fuel or oil from entering the wood. The use of epoxy paint in bilges is not recommend since moisture will be trapped in the wood.
