Starter sticking

The starter solenoid is a fairly simple mechanism that transmits electrical current from the battery to the starter. When you turn the key, the solenoid engages, using the electrical motor in the starter to get your engine running. In the video I thought the plunger. But you have had the starter out and most likely checked those. Tested on different batteries, have plenty of power. Every now and again the motor will start, other times the starter gear drops down before combustion.

The port engine starter stays running on the first start of the day. Turning the batteries off. In my case the starter nosecone had cracked and the gear stayed jammed on the flexplate. I thought i solved it with a new starter , but that one cracked too.


Now when I try to start it the starter continues to spin once I release the key. I Have read through some threads here and the problem mentioned is either ignition switch or solenoid on starter sticking. To troubleshoot my problem, I turned the key to the start position until the starter began turning over , then I removed the key. Symptoms: amp discharge when I turn the key to start, but no turning of the engine.


I have re-made all the connections at the batteries without result. On many engines of most makes, the starter is engaged with a Bendix gear which pushes to engage the crank gear as the starter is energised. Sometimes the Bendix gear sticks,and rocking the crank back and forwards will release the gear,sounds like this is what happened with you but I may be wrong. Thanks for the help and the links. Saw that name in the one link for an aftermarket starter , been looking to see if could find an aftermarket starter gear assembly with no luck. Meantime cleaned it up, it was sticking pretty bad after I got it off, no more sticking.
