The power steering pump on a Ford vehicle works in conjunction with the power steering gear, to aid the driver in steering. Note the position of the pulley on the pump shaft. Grab your power steering pump removal tool, and position the fingers onto the edge of the pulley with the correctly sized rod (if needed) installed to remove the pulley. The pulley is flush with the end of the pulley shaft. Note: You can also leave the arm attached to the engine, and unbolt these two bolts directly from the power steering housing.


If you go this route you will have to unbolt the two bolts through the power steering pulley. Parts are just part of what we do. This tool is used to remove the pulley and also install it back onto the pump.

Than I removed the pulley and used a fine polishing paper inside the pulley hole smoothing the inner surface and removing a minute amount of metal. I then cleaned and oiled the pulley repeating this process until I was able to fully install the pulley. New power steering pulley installed.


Once the tension pulley and the power steering pulley have been loosene you should be able to slip the old belt off rather easily. Step 10: Place new belt on the pulleys. With the teeth side down, slide the new belt over the crankshaft pulley , the power steering pump pulley and the tensioner pulley.
