My coolant light recently came on days ago while I was driving. When the steam and pressure stop coming out, carefully open the reservoir cap just to the point where the remaining pressure (if any) releases. Needle all the way to the bottom.


I suspect the sending unit or wiring is bad. Leaning more towards the wiring because it quit working for a little bit then came back and has quit working again. When the gauge drops the thermostat should close again, or partly close, to allow the coolant in the engine to reach normal operating temp. This cycle should repeat until all coolant is at normal temp.


Everything was working correctly and a few days ago, my engine coolant temp gauge started acting up. When I turn on my car that needle and the gas gauge needle bounce up and down then settle on the spot where they are. But the needle for the engine coolant temp gauge somehow managed to move backwards and is always in the upward position (too hot). Instruments, Displays and Clusters. Any help would be appreciated. Since the coolant temp sensor was replace no problems. I replaced the thermostat and temp sending unit, problem still persists. This kit comes with the AEM Digital gauge , harness, sensor, and adapters to properly install it.


The gauge requires an electric circuit and a sending unit in order to read temperature. The sending unit is a temperature-sensitive material that is part of a variable resistance, water-sealed unit that sits in the coolant stream in the engine.
