Mineral brake fluid which is used in European cars is dyed green when new. Do not use them in vehicles designed for glycol-based fluids or the rubber parts of the brake system will be damaged.
The green fluid is most certainly caused by the fluid chemical components breaking down and attacking the brazed joint in the brake tubing. Leaking Bright Green Fluid! The brake fluid is green because the factory assembly grease used in the assembly of the master cylinder is green ! It tells techs like me that you have never replaced your brake fluid. Are the brake lines copper? If so this could be where the green is coming from.
I do not believe it is normal for the fluid to be green but it could be that you have water disolved in the fluid and it iss oxidizing the fluid. In any event I would bleed the system to replace the fluid. Even though the brake fluid is contained in a sealed system, it can eventually break down from heat. This is a discussion on Green Brake Fluid within the Automotive Support forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category.
I had my oil changed today and was told my brake fluid was green and needed to be flushed. Green Brake Fluid When I was trying to figure out where the brake fluid was coming from I noticed the brake fluid in the master cylinder appeared darker than it should so I checked it out and found that it was a dark greenish color. There are 3green brake fluid suppliers, mainly located in Asia. The top supplying countries are China (Mainland), India, and Hong Kong, which supply , , and of green brake fluid respectively.
Green brake fluid products are most popular in Eastern Asia, Mid East, and Africa. I forgot to mention in my previous post that while changing my brake pads I realized that my brake fluid was a bright green color like antifreeze. I always thought brake fluid was a golden color (my last car took DOT but I thought DOTwas also goldish). There is a green Castrol brake fluid , whoever bled the brakes in my 300e used this as well, mine was dark green though (no telling how old it was). Vehicles that use newer mineral-based brake fluid are green.
I wouldn’t worry about the green tint to the fluid. That’s normal and it actually takes a long time of flushing to get the fluid to run completely clear. What you want to worry about is the pulling when you brake.
They are both hydraulic fluid , so their properties are similar if not identical. It is slightly yellow in color. It must contend with extreme heat and the inevitable moisture contamination that can lead to a brake system failure. Anyone out there know whats up? The pedal feel is so much better.
I have heard of mold growing in brake line. So now all brake fluid is the same color, and green is a no-no. Optimum performance for brake systems based on glycol. You have two types of brake lines – steel and rubber.
Over time and through normal use, brake fluid becomes contaminated. Brakes I would request for the dealer to perform another flush and refill. I flushed the brake system with AMSOIL DOTabout a month ago. It was somewhat spongy feeling so we bleed the brakes a couple times last night and noticed that the fluid was tinted light green. On the right is the ol dirty, and pretty nasty brake fluid I had in my car.
Without it, or without enough if it, the forces you apply at the brake lever would not be transferred to the calliper, pads and rotor. The brake fluid contains chemicals that inhibit corrosion and oxidation, and these chemicals are affected by very high temperatures. DOT spec brake fluid must be transparent. The racing brake fluids that are colored (ATE Super Blue or ATE 2(gold) ) are not DOT compliant simply because of the color.
As mentioned above by 911pcars , it is easy to see the difference of color of used brake fluid. If you’re experiencing a soft brake pedal, have a service technician look for fluid leaking from the master cylinder or elsewhere in the brake system. Brake fluid that has boiled will boil at a lower temperature in the future.
The master cylinder is the unit that creates the power for your brakes. It has a reservoir like the one for your wiper fluid that contains brake fluid. When the car was new there was a sticker on the brake fluid reservoir. This sticker told in multiple languages that only LHM is good for this brake system. My coolant is redish orange, so its not that either. This is that critical fluid for your brake hydraulic system. But after time and with the accumulation of dust, rust particles and other contaminants, it can turn entirely brown.
When brake fluid is new, it is usually either clear (like mineral oil) or tinted slightly brown.
I use it exclusively since it is the best of the non-synthetic brake fluids available and has a very high wet boiling point. I had a new clutch put in my mustang by aamco a few days ago. To properly diagnose a brake leak, you must first locate the leaking point. The best way to do this is by parking your vehicle on a level surface for a couple of hours, then observing the position of the brake fluid that has accumulated beneath the vehicle.
As this is an estate model it will have self levelling rear suspension. DOT and DOT manufacturers. This requires hydraulic fluid similar to green Citroen type. Is it possible that this fluid has been incorrectly poured into brake master cylinder?
GREEN is NOT allowed as brake fluid according to SAE specs. The Citroen LHM fluid is OIL, and NOT compatible with automotive brake system seals. Q45a suspension fluid is OIL and is yellow-clear when new, turns green with use.
In checking my fluids today I noticed that my brake fluid is a light green color.
